Employer branding is all the rage! It’s your company’s ultimate It-girl (or boy)! 🤩

More and more organizations and companies aspire to be seen as the ‘#1 employer’ in the market. Building and maintaining an attractive employer brand is the way for employers to showcase their best. 💪

Employees versus employer branding

What would your current employees tell their friends about you as an employer? What do they consider the features of your company? What makes your company unique? And why would people want to work for you?

These are all questions a simple employee survey can answer. After gathering feedback, you’ll develop the right messages and insights you want to convey as an employer. Bonus? Such a survey shows your employees that you genuinely care about them.

2. Implement positive changes in your employer brand

After the results of your employee survey, it’s logical to start implementing necessary positive changes. Yes, POSITIVE! Communicate openly and honestly about these changes, share results and action plans with your employees. Changes won’t happen overnight, but if there are changes, employees are more likely to embrace them fully.

3. Employer branding starts with your website

Still no career site or job site on your branding website? That’s a major no-go, as it’s the perfect channel to convince applicants but also to drive them away. Whether your career site is a hit or miss depends entirely on the user experience (UX) you provide.

When a potential applicant has to wait minutes for a page to load or fill out a lengthy form before submitting their CV, they quickly get frustrated, throw in the towel, and give up.

Convince potential candidates with words and images why they should join you. Use your employees as ambassadors and let them tell authentic stories on camera. Third-party endorsements work wonders!

4. Get social on social media

Everyone expects companies and organizations to be present on social media – and rightly so! If you want to shine, don’t limit yourself to your career or job site. Many organizations invest heavily in social media. A logical consequence when you consider that 79% of job seekers first check out your social media. It’s the perfect way to take a peek behind the scenes.

Don’t overlook this and review your social media accounts. Check if your activities reflect your company culture and if you’re using them optimally to share success stories and fun moments with the outside world. Again: Rely on your internal ambassadors!

5. Test your own candidate experience

Candidate experience reflects a candidate’s feelings during the application process. It’s about how potential candidates experience your company’s brand from first contact to last, and beyond. Every step during the hiring process gives you a chance to show candidates that they matter.

Try going through your hiring process as if you were applying yourself. Potential candidates might be attracted to your employer brand, but if the hiring process doesn’t meet their expectations, they’ll quickly change their minds.

6. Tell employee stories

Real stories from (real) employees who progress and get opportunities in your company are the ideal tools to promote your employer brand. Look for success stories from employees, but also from successful collaborations with clients. Write case studies, film testimonials, … Show the world how people can develop themselves within your company.

7. Keep monitoring your employer brand

It’s a good idea to continuously ask your employees for feedback. This can be done through specific questions during performance reviews, evaluations, and evolution discussions, through surveys, or interviews. It might seem pointless, but we live in a constantly changing HR landscape, so every new employee or even rejected applicants can provide new insights.
